Quinoa-Crusted Chicken Breast

Asiate - New York, NY

Haute Asian cuisine is a hard concept for me to grasp because some of the best meals I've ever had were on a sidewalk in Bangkok for less than a dollar. But if you're going to splurge, splurge big.

Asiate, atop the Mandarin Oriental and overlooking Central Park, is haute in every sense of the word. The space is gorgeous and the service top-notch. The food is fussy and complex and intricately plated. Good thing it also tastes good!

The chicken was served with an incredibly rich, dark sauce, but it didn't really scream "Asian cuisine" to me. But it was tasty and rich-- maybe a little too rich for lunch.

Would I go back? Sure, if someone else were paying. But I'd sooner save my money for another trip to Thailand where I can eat endless bowls of noodles from the street vendors.
